RULES

Rules of Play

  1. General

    1. The BTCA reserves the right to make changes to these playing rules without notice.
    2. Should a discrepancy arise between this document and any representation of its content in whole or in part, the most current version of this document as approved by the Board of Directors of BTCA and filed with the Nova Scotia government Alcohol and Gaming Division, shall govern.
    3. Notice of name changes to registrations or a request to retire a number may only be given by:
        • A written, signed and dated note in a BTCA chest.
        • An E-mail to admin@baytreasurechest.ca.
        • A private message to the Bay Treasure Chest Facebook page
        • Mail to BTCA, 1-5229 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Upper Tantallon, NS   B3Z 4R5
  2. Registration

    1. The registrant must be an individual person of at least 19 years of age.
    2. Should multiple names appear on a registration application, the first name appearing is deemed to be the registrant.
    3. NB: Registered number(s) are considered ACTIVE by BTCA IF they are played at least once during each calendar year. A drawn number must be ACTIVE and not played to cause a rollover. Failure to play during a calendar year results in the number being declared INACTIVE.
    4. All requests to alter or retire a registration must be from the registrant. Undated retirement requests are effective immediately on receipt at the count hall.
    5. Registrants bear sole responsibility for ensuring contact information is up to date.
    6. Should a registrant die, their number(s) must either be re-registered (transferred) to a living person or retired within one year of passing. For this purpose only, BTCA will accept notice from an executor or next of kin.
    7. To play more than once per week, more than one number must be registered. There is no limit to the quantity of numbers which an individual may register and play.
    8. The registrant is entitled to play each number once per week. The number may be played as soon as the registration form is entered in the BTCA chest.
    9. By registering a number, should they win, registrant agrees to the publication of their name, stories and images and the assignment of all rights to the stories and images to BTCA.
  3. Play

    1. It costs $2.00 for each entry into the draw. (Each entry is a play.)
    2. Each number must be written legibly on a BTC sticker. BTCA recommends using a permanent marker such as a black Sharpie Ultra Fine Point or equivalent.
    3. The BTC number sticker must be placed on Canadian currency and entered in a BTCA chest at a participating retailer for a chance to win the prize.
    4. Cut off time for playing is 12 noon each Wednesday. BTCA chests are usually picked up between 12 noon and 1 PM.
    5. Registrant is solely responsible for determining that they are playing the correct number in the chest marked for the desired week.
    6. Playing one number?
        • Best choice – one sticker on a $2.00 coin (toonie)
        • Acceptable – two stickers (same number), one on each of two $1.00 coins (loonie)
    7. Playing more than one number?
        • Best choice – use a separate $2.00 coin (toonie) for each number
        • Acceptable – two numbers on a $5.00 bill ($1.00 will be a donation)
          • One $5.00 bill with three numbers plus a $1.00 coin (loonie) with one of those three numbers
          • Two $5.00 bills each with three numbers with one of those three numbers appearing on both bills
          • One $10.00 bill with a total of 5 numbers, one $20.00 bill with a total of 10 numbers, etc.
    8. If several numbers are being played, requiring a combination of bills and $2.00 or $1.00 coins, the entire amount may be played in a sealed plastic bag or envelope containing ALL BTC number stickers either all attached to the backing strip, or all attached to every item of currency.
    9. NB – If the quantity of BTC number stickers on a bill or in an envelope multiplied by two is less than the value of the bill or the currency in the envelope, the surplus will be considered a donation. A coin without a number sticker is also considered a donation.
    10. Unacceptable
        • Any coins with an individual value of less than $1.00
        • Use of tape or staples to bind coins and/or bills.
    11. Disqualifications
        • If the quantity of numbered BTC stickers on a bill or in an envelope multiplied by 2 exceeds the value of the bill or currency in the envelope, the BTC sticker(s) bearing the highest number(s) will be disqualified.
        • If there are 2 BTC number stickers (one on each side of a $2.00 or $1.00 coins) with different numbers, the sticker bearing the highest number will be disqualified.
        • Numbers of questionable legibility will be reviewed by a panel of three BTCA volunteers. If the panel cannot arrive at a consensus, the number will be disqualified without recourse or redress.
  4. Prize Draw

    1. The prize consists of half of the total amount played and donated in the current week plus rollover(s) (if any) from previous weeks.
    2. Draws will be made at the Estabrooks Community Hall, 4408 St. Margaret’s Bay Road, Lewis Lake, N.S., B3Z 1E1 each Wednesday before 5:30 PM.
    3. The winner is the registrant of the drawn number, if it was played and has not been retired. To claim a prize, photo ID and proof of age must be presented by the registrant, preferably in person.
    4. Results will be announced on the BTCA website, in the weekly Email update to players, on social media, at participating retail stores and in the Masthead News.
    5. If the number drawn was registered (and ACTIVE) but not played, there is no winner for the week and the prize rolls over to the following week. After 4 consecutive rollover weeks, on the 5th week, draws will continue until a number that has been played is drawn.
    6. If a prize remains unclaimed after 90 days following the original draw date, a second draw will be held for that prize with the draw continuing until a registered number is drawn that had been played that week.
    7. Should the registrant of the played number drawn be deceased prior to being advised of their win, the prize will be awarded to the estate representative as determined by civil law.
