Aleigha said her “heart was pounding” with excitement when she first heard she had won. She is on maternity leave with a 5 month old baby and the money will really help with the bills and is a great Christmas gift!

 

 

 

 

 

November 23, 2016: Molly Whalen wins $7,111 with #5120

Molly Whalen and her husband Robert plan to use their $7,111 prize for Christmas presents for their family, especially their four grandchildren, and to take a summer vacation. Molly has only missed three weekly draws since registering in 2014 and plays her Toonie at Redmond’s Hardware each week.

The prize amount is exactly the same as last week and this is the fifth week in a row that the Bay Treasure Chest has had a winner.

The family that plays their Toonies together wins together. Heather and her sister and brother all play multiple BTC Toonies faithfully every week. When Heather’s number was drawn on Nov. 9th, Ev, Heather and Chuck all happily shared in the family win. When Heather first heard of her lucky win Wednesday evening she said “This is exciting!” When we asked how Heather and her family felt the next day they all said “We’re excited!”.

 

 

 

November 2, 2016: Kevin Wile wins $7,162 with #484

Brenda was on a beach in the Dominican Republic when Bay Treasure Chest called her home number to let her know she had won $14,421 in the October 26, 2016 Draw. She received a text from one of her family members telling her to check her messages, she did, she was mighty surprised and mighty happy! When asked what she might spend her winnings on she said her husband was planning to retire in January 2017 so some celebratory travel could be in the plan, maybe a Canadiens hockey game in Montreal and another trip South!

It pays to work in Tantallon! During her coffee break Maureen runs downstairs from work to play her Toonie every week. On October 13th she ran downstairs again… this time to collect her winnings of $6,869 from the Oct. 12th Bay Treasure Chest draw. An ecstatic Maureen plans to pay off some bills and enjoy a great Christmas with her family. Psst! We also heard Maureen’s cheque was a big surprise for her husband.

Renée thanked all the BTC volunteers who make the Treasure Chest such a success and says she may have a winter vacation with her winnings. BTC funds support BayRides a local transit option for everyone in the Bay.

Mark plays his BTC Toonie faithfully every week. Luckily he played his Toonie “just in time” on Wed. Sept. 26th, because that Toonie won him a nice $21,776 Bay Treasure Chest winner’s cheque. Mark plans to pay off his new car, take his wife Marilyn for a little trip, and enjoy thinking of ways to spend the remainder of his lucky winnings.

Linda has been saving to take a trip to see her two daughters who live in Australia, which she will now be able to fulfill. She is very grateful for the win and is impressed at what a wonderful venture the BTC has become for the community.

You won’t believe this week’s result… We can hardly believe it ourselves! For the second time Michelle O’Connor from West Dover has won the Bay Treasure Chest. Who said lightning doesn’t strike in the same place twice! Michelle has 3 numbers that she plays regularly, and won this week’s draw with the same number she won with on June 29th!. We’re not sure Michelle believed us when we called… she was almost at a loss for words!

Isaac Fraser, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay won $6,726 with #2859 on August 10th. When we called Isaac on the night of the draw he was in Alberta just about to catch a red-eye flight back to his home in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay. In his own words he said “Thank you! Just about to board the plane, couldn’t be any more excited!” The couple purchased their first home fairly recently and plan to spend some of their winnings to erect a fence around their backyard to keep their small dog on their property and off their neighbours!!

Paul & Elise Fieldhouse of Glen Haven won $6,884 on July 27th with #7615. The winners will first be taking 10% of winnings and making a contribution to their favourite charity “Compassion Canada”. The rest will be going towards their planned vacation, and to pay down bills.

Rhonda Tousignant of Timberlea was the winner of $6,894 on July 20th with #8095. Rhonda is planning to start some home renovations with her winnings as well as helping pay for her daughter Renee’s wedding in Canmore, Alberta.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

July 13, 2016 Press Release: Marion Coolen wins $6,902 with #270

Marion Coolen was the winner of $6,902 on July 13th, 2016 with #270. When Marion was presented with the cheque she admitted that she is 87 years “young”, which is a coincidence as she has played her two numbers 87 times. Marion was overwhelmed that she had won this prize and her comments were that she played to give back to the community and didn’t ever expect to win. She spent many years doing local volunteer work and appreciates the work that goes into the Bay Treasure Chest. Her great-grandchildren will be getting a treat with her winnings.

July 6, 2016: Ken Charsley wins $6,753 with #5167

Ken’s win will make many postponed wishes come true. Ken and his wife Gloria will use some of his winnings to attend two family weddings in different provinces. A few more dollars will buy custom machined parts so Ken can finally put his 1937 Dodge on the road. Gloria will soon enjoy a new barbeque.

Ken and Gloria each play their own BTC Toonies regularly, but Ken knew he was drawing into good luck as he told me a story about destroying an old piano to get it out of small doorway, then restoring it to mint condition with winnings from an old 50/50 draw with a lot of 6’s in it. His lucky 6’s came through again with his BTC #5167 winning $6,735 on July 6!

 

 

June 29, 2016: Michelle O’Connor wins $36,980 with #5626  – the largest win to date!

Michelle O’Connor is our largest winner to date and was overwhelmed when we called her on Wednesday June 29th to tell her she was our lucky winner. After 4 weeks of rollovers, on the 5th week we draw until there is a winner and Michelle’s number 5626 was the first drawn. Michelle and her husband Mark play 6 numbers each week regularly at Whales Back Country Store.

Michelle has played 5626 since December 2014. They were both overjoyed that the money will let them have a trip to Cuba, a shopping spree, and pay down their line of credit. They were both very enthusiastic that the odds of playing Bay Treasure Chest and winning are very good – and convinced of it now. They would like to express their appreciation to all the volunteers who have worked so hard to make this a success, and think it is such a great way to give back to the community.

Ann Marie is lucky to have helpful friends. When Treasure Chest volunteer Fred Dolbel couldn’t reach Ann Marie by phone Wednesday afternoon he sent her an email saying “Call me – it’s good news”. While Ann Marie was deciding if this may be a prank call her friend picked up her phone rang the number and said “Call him!” 20 minutes later a happy Ann Marie had her $13,198 cheque in hand. Ann Marie is going to use some of her winnings to do a well anticipated bathroom renovation.

May 4, 2016: Jim Connolly wins $34,876 with #9340 – The largest prize to date!

It’s been 35 weeks since Jim Connolly of Halifax registered his number on September 2, 2015. Jim has played his Toonie 35 times since then and the 35th time was his lucky play! Jim is the winner of the biggest prize we’ve ever had – thanks to all for playing and making our draw so successful!.

Jim’s first concern after he won was that he thought he may not be able to play again. With reassurances that he could still play, he quickly dropped his Toonie in the chest. He also thought his buddy was pulling a prank on him.

He plays the Bay Treasure Chest every week and believes it is a great community fundraiser. He would like to thank everyone for such a great windfall, and to keep up the great work. He will be sharing the winnings with his children.

Darrin’s Saturday routine is to get a coffee at Tim Hortons and then go to Redmonds to play his Toonie. He plans on using the money to pay off some bills, to spend some on his 3-kids, and then he hopes he and his wife can use the rest for something fun.

When BTC called the winner, it was the winner’s wife who answered and said that her husband could not come to the phone at that time. The BTC caller went on to say he was the winner of this week’s 50/50 draw at which time she said “I better get him”. After a slight pause, James came on the phone and was excited to hear he was the winner. He had been soaking in tub at time of call.

When meeting at Redmond’s for the picture, he said he’s undecided about what to do with the winnings, but thinking about a special surprise for the two of them.

February 10, 2016: Rhonda Clarke wins $11,474 with #3528

Rhonda happen to be on the phone with her mother just telling her she was wishing she could win the BTC to pay some of her bills, as then there was a call coming in which she did not recognize and thought she better take it and told her mother she would call her back. The incoming call was the BTC calling to let her know that she had won. She thought it was a friend playing a prank on her as this often happens, and even more so when we told her that the prize was $11,474, She knew the average weekly prize is around $5,500 mark but didn’t realize that it was a rollover week. After all the excitement and forgetting to call her mother back, her mother called to see if everything was okay and of course she was doing the happy dance and gained 4,000 new Facebook friends. Rhonda’s intention is to upgrade her vehicle.

Joyce’s birthday was this week so she is taking her children out to dinner. She plays every week at the Bike and Bean Cafe.

On some phone calls the Treasure Chest Volunteer has as much fun as the lucky winner. It took Barry a few minutes to become convinced his $11,298 win was the real thing when he received his lucky Wednesday phone call. I said to him “Barry, check the website in two hours and you will see your win is for real”. Barry ended with “This is the best phone call I’ve ever had”.

Barry and his wife are going to use some of his winnings to realize their dream of a Mediterranean cruise.
