St. Margaret’s Bay Lions Club
The St. Margaret’s Bay Lions Club delivers and supports a number of community-serving initiatives in the area.
The club supports food security by helping fund breakfast and lunch programs in local schools, in addition to an annual road toll in Tantallon to raise funds for the St. Margaret’s Bay Food Bank.
Local youth benefit through the organization’s support of the 250 Vimy Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron and the 328 St. Margaret’s Bay Sea Cadets. SMB Lions also provides bursaries to local high school graduates to help support their post-secondary education.
Local community members recovering from surgery or dealing with mobility issues can access wheelchairs, walkers, and other equipment through the SMB Lions’ free Hospital Equipment Loan Program (H.E.L.P).
During the Tantallon wildfire that affected so many, the Lions provided disaster assistance, which included helping displaced families with grocery costs.
In addition to responding to local needs, Lions Clubs across the country and around the globe contribute through Lions Clubs International, the largest service club organization in the world. For example, many children and adults living in low-income countries lack access to basic eye care services. As part of a national eyeglass recycling program, SMB Lions, along with other Lions Clubs across Nova Scotia, collect used prescription eyeglasses to be recycled and shipped to developing countries, where they are distributed to those in need.
New members are always welcome.
